The City of Mathis Events and Festivals Committee announces this year’s Freedom Fest hosted in Historic Downtown. The mission of the Freedom Fest is to promote a sense of community in our town through our signature event sponsored by the City of Mathis and is available to the public free of charge and to promote commerce activity in Historic Downtown Mathis.

The Mathis Freedom Fest will take place during the weekend of the Fourth of July including these dates:
Saturday, July 2, 2016 – 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight)
Sunday, July 3, 2016 – 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
This year’s Festival will be the second annual professionally planned event provided by Event Production Services out of Austin, Texas. The vision is to showcase a variety of activities that bring South Texas and the community together for an annual summertime celebration.
Hosting 40 or more food and craft vendors will be at the center of the event that can highlight the local culture and heritage. Local Merchants will have the opportunity to showcase their wares, as well, with a Business Exterior Decoration Contest.

 The event will have a substantial music entertainment along with a Classic Car Show.

 On Saturday, the events open with 5K Walk/Run beginning at 7:00 a.m. with a $25.00 registration fee and check-in at the entrance of Corpus Christi State Park entrance beginning at 6:30 a.m. Medals will be awarded in each category and proceeds will benefit the Mathis Senior High Scholarship Fund.

 The Mathis Market will open at 10:00 a.m. on the McCraw Junior High Lawn – many vendors will be located there throughout the day; fresh vegetables, fruits, baked goods and more will be available.

 Freedom Fest Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. as well with the line-up at the High School football stadium parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Parade registration forms can be pick up at City Hall.

 Freedom Classic Car Show will host cars of all makes and models to be entered and compete for the Best of Show Award, line-up begins at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and registration forms can be picked up at the Festival Information Booth for Show entry.

 Freedom BBQ Cook-Off registration begins at 4:00 p.m. Local cookers are welcome and encouraged to participate for local bragging rights, cash awards and a paid invitation into
the Labor Fest IBCA State Qualifier Cook-Off hosted in Mathis during Labor Day Weekend. Registration information is available at City Hall and proceeds of the cook-off will benefit the
Mathis Senior High Scholarship Fund.

 On Sunday evening, the City will provide a fireworks celebration show to close the weekend events starting at approximately 10:55 p.m.

 The main event is located in historic downtown Mathis on San Patricio Avenue and some activities will be hosted in surrounding areas.
