San Patricio County Economic Development Corporation approved the action of San Antonio Water Systems application to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for Bed and Banks Authorization under Texas Water Code Section 11.042 (b) at the Executive Full Board Meeting on Monday, May 23rd, 2016. This move directly benefits the area as it defends one of the region's most iconic wildlife species, the whooping crane, as well as the ecosystem it calls home. Permission by the TCEQ to SAWS will allow transportation of high-quality wastewater effluent to San Antonio Bay in times of drought and during wet seasons to protect Texas wildlife. SAWS wants to ensure healthy rivers, estuaries and bays especially in the areas where SAWS operations take place. The company is the largest direct recycled water system in the United States raclaiming 25,000 acre feet of wastewater annually for industrial and outdoor uses including the San Antonio Riverwalk and even frac uses. SAWS holds recognition by the Environmental Protection Agency for being one of the nation's best. It's purple pipes stand out in the industry. The SPCEDC identifies SAWS as a helpful municipal entity for promoting a habitat worth visiting and caring for.
