Taft Downtown Revitalization Project Phase I Celebration

Come Celebrate the Completion of Phase I Downtown Revitalization
TAFT, TX — February 22, 2018 — The City of Taft Economic Development Corporation, in conjunction with the City of Taft, is pleased to host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the celebration of the Phase I completion of Taft downtown Revitalization project.

This $1.1 million revitalization of Taft’s downtown sidewalks includes a shared-use pathway that will connect the business district to public buildings like City Hall, Taft City Park, Taft High School, as well as the community pool, ball fields, and walking trail.
The ceremony will include a complimentary breakfast, a keynote address by State Representative J.M. Lozano, followed by a community ribbon cutting led by Taft Mayor Pedro Lopez.
At the close of this ceremony, there will be a special announcement regarding new portions of the downtown revitalization project.
The City of Taft is currently engaged in year 3 of a 7-year road rehabilitation plan. In 2016, the city completed a renovation of their sole water tower. In 2014, the city completed a project to rehab sewage line and the waste water treatment plant, leaving the plant with 50% available capacity. This revitalization project is the next step in the city’s plan to rebuild itself andposition it for port industry related growth.
